Basil Karampelas

Basil Karampelas is a Managing Director in the firm’s Business Restructuring Services practice. He has over 25 years of experience in corporate restructuring, raising capital, executing M&A transactions, and providing financial and operational leadership to companies in the energy, chemical and renewable sectors.
Mr. Karampelas also has transaction experience including buy-side, sell-side, auctions out of bankruptcy, privatizations, joint ventures, joint development agreements, and private equity and venture capital investments.
Basil is a frequent speaker and moderator at energy and cleantech conferences and has been featured in several industry publications.
Prior to joining BDO, Mr. Karampelas was most recently the President of American Process, Inc., a bio-based chemicals and advanced materials company based in Atlanta, GA. Prior to joining API, he spent several years managing portfolio companies in the energy and renewable portfolio of Plainfield Asset Management. During that time, he acted as interim CEO of Heliosphera, a leading European solar panel producer. He was also interim CFO of Green River Biodiesel, where he successfully took the company through Chapter 11. Mr. Karampelas also acted as a senior advisor to Black Elk Energy and Caltex Capital, two Texas-based E&P companies.
He has previously held leadership positions at BP, Enron, and Koch Industries. Basil began his career as an energy sector investment banker at Salomon Brothers and Wasserstein Perella.
