Fernando Tovar is the Chief Executive Officer for the Mexican operations of Engie S.A., a French multinational energy company. ENGIE develops its businesses (power, natural gas, energy services) around a model based on responsible growth to take on the major challenges of energy’s transition to a low-carbon economy: access to sustainable energy, climate change mitigation and adaptation and the rational use of resources. The Group provides individuals, cities and businesses with highly efficient and innovative solutions based on its expertise in four key sectors: renewable energy, energy efficiency, liquefied natural gas and digital technology. ENGIE employs 154,950 people worldwide and achieved revenues of €69.9 billion in 2015.

Fernando has been with Engie since 2001 and has more than 20 years of experience in downstream energy. Prior to his appointment as CEO for Mexico, he served as Engie’s Chief of Business Development in Latin America, covering Latin America and the Caribbean (except Brazil), focusing on centralized power generation (renewables and conventional) and gas and other energy infrastructure projects. Fernando's prior role was as CEO of GNLS S.A. (a joint venture of Engie and Marubeni), which was awarded the contract to build an LNG floating storage and regasification terminal offshore Montevideo, Uruguay with a storage capacity of 263,000 m3 of LNG and a regasification capacity of 10 MSm3/day. Previously, Fernando was Engie's CEO and Country manager for Central America and the Caribbean, responsible for managing existing power generation portfolio and driving new business development in that region.

Prior to that, Fernando was General Counsel for Engie in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, providing legal advice on greenfield and brownfield developments as well as acquisitions of power generation plants, seawater desalination facilities, gas distribution companies and LNG regasification projects. Fernando began his career with Engie working in Engie North America with responsibility for all legal affairs in Mexico and for corporate finance for North America. Before joining Engie, Fernando was an Associate for more than 7 year with the law firm of Vinson & Elkins, starting in a litigation practice before he moved into a transactions practice.  Over the course of his career, Fernando has gathered experience working and advising on the development, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of energy projects in the United States of America, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Panamá, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Brazil, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Morocco, South Africa, India, Singapore and Thailand.
