Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Manager

Jacob Flewelling is the U.S. Trade and Development Agency’s Africa Business Development Manager, based in Johannesburg, South Africa since November 2015.  

He serves as the lead for clean energy activities in South Africa and Lusophone Africa and also has a key role in business development for the transport and ICT sectors in southern Africa.
Jacob was previously a Country Manager at USTDA headquarters beginning in December 2008, working with both the Latin America and the Caribbean as well as the South Asia regional teams.  In this capacity, he had responsibility for business development, project preparation and evaluation, and supervision of all USTDA activities in his assigned countries.  

Prior to joining USTDA, Jacob worked as an Investment Insurance Officer in the Africa and Latin America regions at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), beginning in May 2005.  Jacob earned a Master's degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University and a Bachelor's degree in International Relations from the School of International Service at American University.
