John Pexton has a wide experience as a leader in the energy industry, including trading, banking and managing Asian energy companies. He has developed ground-breaking energy projects and partnerships and has significant expertise in managing across boundaries and cultures to build teams and transform organisations.

John joined the JERA Group in Singapore as Corporate Adviser in 2017 and was elected Non-Executive Director of JERA Trading Pte Ltd.  He also assists JERA Group in the development of international gas and power projects.

John’s prior experience has included: as Head of Marketing and Origination, driving the growth of BP's oil supply and trading business in Asia and Middle East; as Deputy CEO of Fortune Oil PLC, developing a pioneering integrated gas/LNG distribution and coal bed methane business in China; as CFO of an upstream services company at the forefront of unconventional gas development in India; as an investment banker at Morgan Grenfell/Deutsche Bank, advising on and arranging finance for the world's largest energy and infrastructure deals such as the first West East Pipeline in China; and, as a chemical engineer, optimising oil refinery processes across the globe.

John has a MA in Chemical Engineering from Jesus College, Cambridge University and an MBA (Distinction) from London Business School.  He has a Japanese wife and two sons and lives in both Singapore and UK.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and a co-founder of the Singapore branch of UK’s Energy Institute.
