Prof Jonathan Redfern is Chair of Petroleum Geoscience at the University of Manchester, UK, with 30+ years industry and academic experience. Prior to joining academia he worked for 12 years with international oil companies Fina and Amerada Hess in Exploration and New Ventures across Europe, S.E Asia and North Africa. As Head of the Basin Studies and Petroleum Geoscience Group he has been instrumental in the development at the University of Manchester of one of the largest petroleum research / teaching centers in the UK. He established the North Africa Research Group in 2000, attracting sponsorship from a consortium of oil companies (currently BP, Cairn, Repsol, Chevron Statoil and Woodside). They undertake large integrated research projects to evaluate onshore and offshore petroleum systems. Currently 11 PhDs are working on projects in Morocco and Libya, and further projects have now commenced in Senegal, Mauritania and the Gambia in 2017.
